Google signs deals with five US electric utilities for 1 gigawatt of demand response capacity for its data centers
Google signed agreements with five US electric utilities for one gigawatt of demand response capacity to support its data center operations, Reuters reported.
One gigawatt is roughly equivalent to the output of a nuclear power plant. The deals span multiple states and represent one of the largest demand response commitments by a single technology company.
The arrangements reflect the growing strain that AI workloads place on electrical grids as companies scale training and inference infrastructure.
