Meta Plans Layoffs Affecting Up to 20 Percent of Workforce

Meta is planning layoffs that could affect up to 20% of its workforce, according to multiple reports. The cuts would be among the largest in the company's history and span multiple divisions. The layoffs come as Meta redirects resources toward AI development and away from divisions that have underperformed. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has signaled that 2026 will be a year of operational efficiency. Meta employed approximately 67,000 people as of its last earnings report. A 20% reduction would eliminate roughly 13,000 positions.
