China approves first brain chips for commercial sale, plans to dominate BCI

China approved the first brain-computer interface devices for commercial sale, positioning the country to compete with Neuralink and other Western BCI companies, WIRED reported. The approved devices are designed for medical applications including treatment of neurological disorders. Chinese regulators fast-tracked the approvals as part of a national strategy to lead in neurotechnology. China's BCI industry has received significant government funding and benefits from fewer regulatory restrictions on human trials compared to the United States.
