Micron completes $1.8B acquisition of Powerchip DRAM fab in Taiwan

Micron completed its $1.8 billion acquisition of a DRAM fabrication facility in Taiwan from Powerchip Semiconductor. The deal gives Micron additional manufacturing capacity for memory chips used in AI servers and data centers. The acquisition comes as demand for high-bandwidth memory surges due to AI workloads. DRAM is a critical component in GPU servers that train and run large AI models. Micron is competing with Samsung and SK Hynix for market share in AI-grade memory, where supply constraints have kept prices elevated.
