Australia's government is weighing a plan that would let AI companies train on copyrighted work unless creators object, The Next Web reports, citing leaked government slides described by ABC News. UK campaigners who opposed a similar plan there have warned Australia against adopting it.

The UK dropped its opt-out plan in March after only 3% of more than 10,000 consultation respondents supported it. AI companies including OpenAI and Anthropic have asked Australia to ease its rules. The Australian attorney-general's office says it is still consulting on options for creator control and fair payment.
