Google says K-12 schools will be able to disable Gemini apps while keeping Search available to logged-in students, clarifying an education AI policy announced earlier this week. Schools using Google apps will have to explicitly enable products in its AI portfolio, which includes Search.

The clarification follows reporting that schools rejecting AI would lose search access. Google told Ars Technica it had not changed the policy. Schools seeking to block all of Google's AI products can leave the entire portfolio disabled, including Search.
