Litigation funder Burford Capital disclosed Monday that it could receive $1.4 billion if Apple pays a $5.7 billion patent verdict in full, 9to5Mac reported. A US jury ruled last Friday that Apple's Taptic Engine infringed two patents held by Taction Technology. Apple said it would appeal.

Burford said its potential entitlement would be split roughly equally between its own balance sheet and its investment funds. The disclosure lifted Burford's London-listed shares 9.41% at the close. The potential payment depends on the verdict ultimately being paid in full.
