Estonian startup Rollo Robotics is developing 1Rollo, a one-wheeled autonomous security robot now in functional prototype form, New Atlas reported.

The AI-enabled robot is designed to patrol a user's property along a predefined map using 360-degree computer vision and RTK GNSS positioning. Cameras and other sensors are meant to detect and avoid obstacles and to flag anomalies. If it spots something suspicious, it can alert a human overseer over 4G/5G or Wi-Fi; overseers can also talk to people on site through a built-in speaker and microphone and monitor fleets via a cloud platform.

Balance comes from an internal vertically oriented spinning flywheel inline with the main wheel; tilting the flywheel steers left or right. Top speed is listed at 30 km/h (19 mph), with up to eight hours of runtime per charge.

Rollo hopes to offer 1Rollo commercially next year under a Robotics-as-a-Service subscription rather than hardware purchase, CEO and co-founder Sander Sebastian Agur told New Atlas, aiming for lower operating cost than traditional guards or guard-and-vehicle setups while keeping hardware and software current.
