Discord begins using account activity to estimate users' ages
Image: Primary Discord has launched a system that estimates users' ages from signals including account age, general activity, joined communities and connected games. It follows the company's decision in February to pause a broader age-verification rollout after a backlash over privacy and security. Discord says it does not analyze messages, calls or other content for the estimate.
Users can see their assigned age group in Account Status. Those asked to verify their age can use methods including a credit card authorization, an app store age range or an AgeKey credential instead of facial estimation or an ID upload. Age-restricted spaces remain blocked for teenage users; Discord says adult users will see no change to how the platform works.
