Apple's anticipated MacBook Pro overhaul featuring an OLED display with Dynamic Island and touchscreen capabilities is facing production delays into 2027 due to industry-wide memory shortages.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, supply constraints for components like RAM and SSD storage have pushed back the launch timeline. While Apple had previously targeted a late 2026 to early 2027 release window, the company is now more likely aiming for the latter part of that timeframe.

The next-generation MacBook Pro is expected to include several significant upgrades: an OLED display with Dynamic Island cutout similar to recent iPhones, touchscreen functionality resembling iPad and iPhone interfaces, and more powerful M6 Pro and M6 Max chips.

Gurman reports that the delay is not related to software development, as macOS 27 will include the necessary accommodations for the new touchscreen interface this fall. The software will feature new contextual menu controls and dynamically enlarged buttons in the system menu bar.

The forthcoming Mac Studio update has also been affected by the same component shortages and faces similar delays.

With multiple major upgrades planned simultaneously, Apple may position the OLED MacBook Pro as a new high-end variant with a higher price point, while continuing to sell current M5 MacBook Pro models at existing prices. This strategy could help manage demand amid constrained supply conditions.
