Generalist AI demonstrated robot arms that learned tasks from short instructional videos without task-specific training, according to a WIRED visit to its Cambridge offices. In demonstrations, robots stacked cups, handled objects and adapted when a tool was removed. The company collects physical-interaction data using camera-equipped grippers operated by people. Generalist says its models complete a shown task about 59% of the time on average, well below the reliability needed for broad deployment.
