Toyota will manufacture 2027 bZ4X electric vehicles and integrate Waymo's self-driving system at its Takaoka factory in Japan under a partnership announced Friday, TechCrunch reported. Waymo will begin testing the autonomous vehicles in Japan next year, with eventual robotaxi operations intended there and deployment planned for other countries with right-hand driving, including the U.K.

The agreement advances a preliminary partnership signed 18 months earlier into a vehicle supply arrangement. Waymo has been testing autonomous Jaguar I-Pace vehicles in London for months, but launching its planned service there depends on receiving the necessary permits.
