![mold 3.0.0 is a new major release of the high-speed linker. As we announced in the 2.42.1 release notes, we have rewritten mold from C++ to Rust, and this is the first release of the Rust version. ... — Primary](https://opengraph.githubassets.com/7659ccb6795b17238e8855883fc309052cecaa79c55327aa08ae0c544bcfcf39/rui314/mold/releases/tag/v3.0.0)

The mold project released version 3.0.0 of its linker, the tool that combines compiled code into executable programs, replacing its C++ implementation with Rust. The release notes say corrupted input now triggers bounds-checked failures rather than the out-of-bounds memory reads possible in the C++ version.

The maintainers describe the release as a drop-in replacement for 2.42.1, with the same options, target architectures and comparable linking performance. It also fixes crashes, corrupted output and architecture-specific errors. Building mold now requires Cargo, Rust 1.95 or later and a C compiler. Closing remaining GNU ld compatibility gaps remains a goal for the 3.x series.
