Researchers reported that the nematode pheromone ascr#18 primed plant immune responses by changing chromatin accessibility around defense genes. In field work described in a Communications Biology study, foliar application reduced fungal disease severity and improved yield in corn and soybean. The researchers also said seed soaking was sufficient to prime later defense. The report does not establish a commercial product or regulatory approval.
