# AWS adds AMD R8a instances to Aurora and RDS

AWS added R8a database instances powered by fifth-generation AMD EPYC processors to Amazon Aurora and RDS. Each virtual CPU corresponds to a physical processor core, and the instances offer up to 75 Gbps of network bandwidth and 60 Gbps of Amazon EBS bandwidth for workloads with high data-transfer requirements.

Support covers Aurora's PostgreSQL- and MySQL-compatible editions and RDS for PostgreSQL, MySQL and MariaDB. Availability spans nine regions: N. Virginia, Ohio, Oregon, Canada Central, Tokyo, Taipei, Ireland, Frankfurt and Spain. Customers can select the instances through the RDS console or AWS command-line interface, with support depending on database engine version.
