General Fusion and the UK Atomic Energy Authority reported electron heating to 1.1 keV, or 12.6 million degrees Celsius, in the LM26 fusion demonstration machine. The temperature was measured just before peak compression using Thomson scattering, a technique that measures plasma temperature through scattered laser light.

LM26 compresses magnetically confined plasma with a solid metal wall over milliseconds. The result demonstrates heating through the company's low-speed compression approach. Upgrades are underway toward a 10 keV target; the program must subsequently reach the temperature, density and confinement conditions required for net fusion energy. The technical paper is being submitted for peer review.
