VSMC opens $7.8 billion Singapore chip fab, begins risk production
Image: Primary VisionPower Semiconductor Manufacturing Company opened its $7.8 billion wafer fabrication plant in Singapore on September 28. The joint venture between Vanguard International Semiconductor and NXP Semiconductors has completed construction and entered risk production, an initial manufacturing stage before chips are made at commercial scale.
The Tampines plant is designed to make specialty chips used in power management and other applications for computing, vehicles and industrial equipment. VSMC plans to begin volume production in the first quarter of 2027 and reach full capacity by 2029.
