The Federal Aviation Administration is rolling out a digital information system to replace four legacy setups at air traffic control facilities, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced Thursday. Upgrades have begun at five sites, with deployment across 435 facilities targeted by the end of 2028.

The Enterprise - Information Display System combines real-time weather alerts, equipment outages, restricted airspace changes and pilot reports on a digital dashboard, replacing manual workflows and floppy-disk storage.

The deployment follows an FAA contract awarded to Leidos in August 2020. Replacing the information systems does not address the separate shortage of thousands of certified professional air traffic controllers.
