Schaeffler said it completed validation testing for formed strain-wave gearboxes intended for humanoid-robot actuators and plans to begin manufacturing them at scale in 2027. The company said its forming process shapes components in seconds rather than using conventional precision machining. It claimed the gearboxes achieve comparable torque and efficiency to conventional components, while reducing manufacturing costs by more than 25% and material consumption by more than 75%. Production is planned to start in Germany before expanding to other regions.
