US agencies warn of AI-assisted attacks on Siemens industrial controllers
Image: Primary US cybersecurity agencies issued a joint advisory warning that threat actors are actively targeting Siemens S7 programmable logic controllers used in critical infrastructure. The agencies said attackers use internet-scanning services to find exposed devices and AI-generated Python exploitation scripts that can read and write PLC memory, configuration data and ladder logic. Targeted sectors include manufacturing, energy, water, chemicals, food and commercial facilities. Agencies urged owners to inventory devices, update them, block internet access and strengthen access controls.
