Vercel Acquires Egyptian-Founded Stakpak, Its Second African-Founded Startup Deal Within Days
Image: Primary American cloud platform Vercel has acquired Stakpak, the Egyptian-founded startup behind one of the first open-source autonomous DevOps agents, for an undisclosed sum.
This is Vercel's second acquisition of an African-founded infrastructure startup within days, following the purchase of Ethiopian-founded Better Auth by developer Bereket Engida. Announcing the deal, Fahmy framed the move around what he described as Vercel's shift beyond frontend cloud services. Stakpak was founded in 2023 by George Fahmy with the stated goal of building self-driving infrastructure.
The team developed an open-source agent harness, a production-ready DevOps agent, and AI-enhanced security systems, all designed to support autonomous infrastructure management. Stakpak spent close to two years bootstrapping from Cairo before raising venture capital and relocating to San Francisco. In early 2025 it closed a $500,000 round led by P1 Ventures, with participation from Digital Currency Group, 500 Global, and Instabug co-founders Moataz Soliman and Omar Gabr.
