# Waymo starts driverless operations in Detroit for employees

Waymo began fully autonomous driving in Detroit on Tuesday, with rides initially limited to employees, ClickOnDetroit reported. The company says the step follows several months of familiarizing its driving system with the city and working with local officials and community members.

Vehicles will continue operating downtown and in surrounding neighborhoods, including Corktown, Midtown, Hamtramck and Indian Village. Waymo plans to expand across the metropolitan area, but public rides will wait until it establishes a safety framework and validates the technology.
