Cloudflare Launches Smart Tiered Cache for Public Cloud Regions to Cut Egress and Latency
Image: Primary Cloudflare has released Smart Tiered Cache for Public Cloud Regions, a new capability that automatically selects the optimal upper-tier cache point of presence (PoP) for origins hosted on major cloud providers. When an origin's IP address is detected as anycast, a common pattern for load-balanced cloud endpoints, Cloudflare now lets customers specify the cloud region (such as aws:us-east-1 or gcp:europe-west1) where that origin logically resides. The system then maps that region to the best-performing upper-tier PoP using continuous latency probing data refreshed every 15 minutes.
Previously, Smart Tiered Cache would fall back to a multi-tier topology for anycast origins, spreading traffic across multiple upper tiers and increasing origin egress. With the region hint, Cloudflare pins the origin to a single primary upper tier backed
