Amazon-owned Zoox more than doubled its monthly active user base in the first half of 2026 and increased its market share from 15% to 25%, according to data from competitive intelligence platform Apptopia. The autonomous robotaxi service operates bidirectional electric vehicles without steering wheels or pedals in Las Vegas and San Francisco. Apptopia said Zoox is challenging Waymo's market dominance in 2026, particularly in the second quarter, though Waymo remains the industry leader with nearly 4,000 autonomous robotaxis across the United States and operations in multiple states and internationally. Zoox recently redesigned its vehicles with a lighter cabin color palette, improved seat padding and ergonomics, larger cupholders, a more vivid touchscreen and a new door interface with a speaker and microphone for rider support communication. The refreshed models will join the existing fleet later in 2026. The service is currently free to use after downloading the app. Waymo vehicles have faced public scrutiny after several mishaps and issues navigating construction zones and weather changes, but the Alphabet-owned company continues to expand its reach in 2026.
