Cloudflare opens closed beta for agent payments to websites and APIs

Cloudflare has opened a closed beta of its Monetization Gateway, which lets eligible US sellers charge AI agents for individual requests to websites, APIs, tools and datasets. The company says four customer uses are already in production, including agent-facing access to Stocktwits data and API2PDF's document service. Sellers set prices and choose which requests require payment. The gateway returns an HTTP 402 payment request, then verifies and settles payment through Coinbase's x402 service using USDC on the Base blockchain before releasing the resource. US-based Cloudflare customers can also pay per request for a selected set of AI Gateway models. Access to the gateway remains limited to eligible US-based sellers and buyers.
