_Published Monday, November 2, 2026 at 8:04 PM EST · Infrastructure · Latest · Tier 2 — Notable_

AWS has expanded availability of M8i and R8i instances for its managed Oracle database service. Both instance types are now available in New Zealand and Calgary, while R8i is also available in Milan, Stockholm, Zurich and Tel Aviv.

The instances use Intel Xeon 6 processors. AWS claims up to 15% better price-performance and 2.5x more memory bandwidth than previous-generation Intel-based instances. Customers must bring their own Oracle licenses. Enterprise Edition supports sizes from large to 48xlarge, while Standard Edition 2 supports large to 4xlarge; both editions also support metal-48xl and metal-96xl bare metal sizes.
