The Federal Communications Commission has abandoned a long-term broadband goal set during the Biden administration that envisioned gigabit download and half-gigabit upload speeds, according to The Verge's account of the agency's decision. The existing benchmark for defining broadband remains 100 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload, following its 2024 increase. The report does not identify a replacement long-term speed goal.
