Gemini brings reusable skills to free chat users as Gems migration begins

Google has begun rolling out reusable skills in Gemini chat, including to free users who lack access to Spark, 9to5Google reported. Users can call these saved instructions for recurring tasks from the main prompt box with a slash command. Gemini will automatically migrate existing Gems into skills. The rollout changes how users access saved instructions, but skills will gain some Gems features only over the coming weeks, including link sharing and the ability to add Google Drive files or notebooks as context. Personal Google Accounts will lose access to Gems starting in November. Google Workspace business, enterprise and nonprofit customers are scheduled to migrate in March 2027, and education users in June 2027.
