# Andreessen Horowitz founders back $42 million alternative to college

A two-year private school backed by Andreessen Horowitz founders Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz has raised $42 million for an alternative to college. The Horowitz Andreessen Academy plans to teach through independent, business-oriented projects and give participating companies early access to students in exchange for work experience, advice and computing credits.

Applications are open for a tuition-free pilot of 50 students starting in September 2027. The academy says more than 30 companies are partners, including Nvidia, OpenAI and Stripe. A later two-year programme would charge tuition that its chief executive said would be similar to an elite private university.
