The UK government will put £100m into a new AI Biosecurity Lab to detect biological threats and accelerate vaccine and treatment research, the Cabinet Office said Saturday. OpenAI and Anthropic will contribute up to £200m between them in computing resources, model access and support rather than cash.

OpenAI's contribution includes £100m in compute and model credits. Anthropic will provide up to £100m in model credits, model access and technical support. The lab will operate as an independent non-profit, with public bodies including the UK Health Security Agency participating.

The announcement named no director, site or start date and set no time period for the government's £100m.
