Scientists at Nanyang Technological University developed PLATO, a database of 5,118 unique protein sequences, and PhaseHub, a platform for investigating proteins that form droplet-like compartments inside cells. PLATO includes more than 3,600 proteins that undergo this phase separation and 1,300 that do not, alongside shortened proteins, mutations and engineered variants.

The team used AI to extract experimental findings from PubMed papers and manually reviewed the results. PhaseHub combines predictions across 1,106 species with protein abundance and interaction data, letting researchers search proteins or submit sequences and examine potential partners. Existing collections underrepresent negative experimental results and sequence variants, an imbalance that can make predictive models overestimate condensation.
