France's Finance Ministry says an attacker accessed systems at the General Directorate of Public Finances and extracted data concerning 678,000 individuals and professionals. The ministry says the accessed data included tax information, cadastral address and property-size data, and business names and SIREN numbers. It says user account IDs and passwords were not compromised. The tax administration shut down access to sensitive systems, notified France's data-protection authority, and is investigating with the national cybersecurity agency. A threat actor had advertised a database for sale on August 12.
