# NASA awards approximately $38 million lunar 5G development contract

NASA awarded Modulate Space Corporation a firm-fixed-price contract valued at approximately $38 million to develop elements of a lunar 5G communications system with built-in Wi-Fi 6. The work for Glenn Research Center will develop hardware, firmware and software for future Moon Base surface operations.

The laboratory demonstration performance period runs from Oct. 1 through Jan. 31, 2028. The integrated lunar network and surface flight demonstration period runs from Nov. 30 through Dec. 31, 2028. The demonstrations will evaluate system architecture and operational performance as NASA develops its lunar communications capability.
