Fifty percent of employed US adults report using artificial intelligence at work at least a few times per year, according to new research from Gallup.

The milestone marks the first time adoption has reached majority status among American workers. Management personnel show higher adoption rates than individual contributors, with executives more likely to view AI impact positively.

Employees report productivity gains from AI tools but have not seen fundamental shifts in workflow processes. The data suggests AI is being integrated as an enhancement rather than a replacement for existing work structures.

Leaders and workers diverge significantly on perceptions of AIs effects. While executives emphasize efficiency benefits, frontline workers express more mixed sentiments about integration challenges.

The survey indicates generative AI tools are being adopted fastest in knowledge work sectors including finance, technology, and professional services. Manufacturing and retail show lower but growing adoption rates.

Gallup has been tracking workplace AI adoption since 2023, when usage rates were under 10 percent among employed adults.
