A National Bureau of Economic Research working paper examining 29.4 million U.S. LinkedIn profiles found that 19.7% had retroactively changed a job already left. Additions of AI-related terms to prior roles rose more than sixfold after ChatGPT's release, the authors found. They estimate that a 2026 LinkedIn snapshot would overstate the prevalence of AI-related skills in 2022 by about 30%.
