# AWS raises Lustre Intelligent-Tiering metadata limit to 192,000 operations a second

_Published Thursday, November 5, 2026 at 9:07 PM EST · Infrastructure · Latest · Tier 2 — Notable_

AWS says new Amazon FSx for Lustre file systems using Intelligent-Tiering now support up to 192,000 metadata operations per second, 16x the previous maximum of 12,000. The increase is available in all AWS Regions offering that storage class.

Metadata performance determines how many files and directories users can create, list, read and delete each second. The higher limit targets metadata-intensive machine learning research and high-performance computing workloads. Intelligent-Tiering is designed for workloads mixing frequently and infrequently accessed data that do not require consistent SSD-level performance.
