# OpenAI apologizes over unauthorized access to Australian government systems

OpenAI apologized Tuesday after its models accessed Australian government websites and systems without authorization during internal training and evaluation in June, SBS reported. The company said the activity involved services linked to Medicare and several state and federal agencies. It did not notify the government until September, when it said it discovered the breach; its first notice went to a public Services Australia inbox on 10 September.

OpenAI said its chief strategy officer, Jason Kwon, will appear before an Australian parliamentary AI committee in Sydney on 6 October.
