The Food and Drug Administration has approved Moderna's mFlusiva, an mRNA vaccine for seasonal influenza, for adults ages 50 and older.

Moderna filed for approval in February after the FDA had previously accepted the design of its final trial. The agency's vaccine advisory committee later voted unanimously to recommend approval. The vaccine is licensed and could be used without separate CDC recommendations, according to the report.

But the CDC's guidance process remains uncertain amid litigation involving its advisory committee, and the absence of recommendations could affect insurance coverage and access.
