IDCF Cloud ransomware attack disrupts companies and local governments Image: Primary
A ransomware attack disrupted IDCF Cloud's East Japan Region 1 on October 7, affecting websites and services used by companies and local governments. A note article citing ITmedia and Nikkei reports said unauthorized access began around 3:40 a.m. at the region's data center in Shirakawa, Fukushima Prefecture. Operator IDC Frontier identified the incident as ransomware. Nikkei reported disruptions affecting 495 companies and local governments, including the Ibaraki Prefectural Government. The operator isolated networks and shut down systems while investigating the intrusion and working on recovery. ITmedia reported that some users were told restoration was difficult. The intrusion route, whether information was stolen, and the restoration timetable remained unknown.
