TU Dresden geometry professor Andreas Thom has raised questions about whether unpublished research discussed in his ChatGPT conversations could have contributed to an OpenAI group-theory result announced in August, according to Heise.

Thom said he had discussed ongoing research through ChatGPT before disabling model-training use of his content on June 29. Heise reported that OpenAI researcher Mark Sellke told him the conversations had not been used. The dispute follows criticism over OpenAI's Navier-Stokes work and focuses on whether older, de-identified user material could have informed model improvement.
