Gigabyte announced Friday that two motherboard lines will support upcoming Intel processors using the LGA 1700 socket, with the chips expected to launch in early 2027, The Verge reported. The platform supports both DDR4 and DDR5 memory; Intel switched to a DDR5-only approach in 2024.

The older platform offers an upgrade path that can retain DDR4 memory amid rising RAM prices. The Verge cited a 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5 kit priced at $620, compared with $260 for the corresponding DDR4 kit.

DDR5 offers higher speeds and better power efficiency. Intel did not immediately respond to the publication's request for comment.
