Apple introduces Reference Image mode on iPhone 18 Pro

Apple introduced Reference Image, an opt-in camera mode debuting on the main sensors of iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Apple says the feature creates securely timestamped images through a sensor-signed digital negative and processing in Private Cloud Compute. The company says individual images or images from a sensor can be revoked if found fraudulent, while outside observers cannot link images to a photographer or device. Apple characterizes the system's security properties as its own assessment.
