Anthropic said in a first-party post that Claude optimized inference for more than 30 open-source models used in biology work, including molecular structure modeling, drug-like molecule design and genetic mutation effect prediction, making them about four times faster on average.

The company said part of the gain came from Claude writing custom software for GPUs, and that it is open-sourcing all of the optimization code. Anthropic framed the effort around the cost of running specialized models, which it said can limit their use. The post links to an Anthropic research page on Claude and biomolecular modeling.
