# EC2 lets image owners share selected tags across AWS accounts

Amazon EC2 now lets owners of Amazon Machine Images share selected metadata tags with every AWS account receiving an image, AWS announced. The tags accompany images shared with individual accounts, organizations or the public, removing the need for custom tag replication workflows.

Owners enable sharing by adding the 'ec2:SharedTag/' prefix to a tag key. Recipients can read shared tags, but only owners can change them. Shared tags count against the owner's 50-tag resource quota rather than recipients' limits. The feature is available in all AWS Regions at no additional cost.
