# OpenLDK developer reports Java applications running inside Common Lisp

OpenLDK's developer reports recent progress running JVM languages and Spring Boot applications inside Common Lisp. The runtime translates Java bytecode into Lisp, which SBCL compiles into native machine code, allowing Java objects to share the Lisp application's process and heap.

The developer says Java's compiler, multiple JVM language implementations and Spring PetClinic now run in this environment. Developers can inspect objects and modify a running Spring Boot application's behavior through Lisp tools. Cold starts for large language implementations can take minutes, and the developer says HotSpot remains much faster for general Java execution.
