arXiv secures $17.2 million for independent nonprofit transition

arXiv said three philanthropic organizations have committed $17.2 million over three to five years to support its transition to an independent nonprofit. Simons Foundation International, XTX Markets and Siegel Family Endowment are providing the funding. The commitments will support arXiv's operations, technical infrastructure and governance. The research sharing platform also plans to improve its services and develop ways to manage AI-generated content. The funding gives arXiv resources for the transition, which it has not yet completed.
