Utility technology firm Itron, Inc. has disclosed a cybersecurity incident in which an unauthorized third party accessed certain internal systems.

The company detected the activity last month and filed an 8-K report with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on April 13, 2026. Itron said it activated its cybersecurity response plan, notified law enforcement, and engaged external advisors to investigate and contain the breach. The unauthorized activity has been blocked, and the company reported no follow-up activity.

Itron provides technology products and services for energy and water resources management. The Washington-based NASDAQ-listed company employs roughly 5,600 people and reported $2.4 billion in revenue for 2025. It serves 7,700 customers across 100 countries and manages 112 million endpoints.

The company said business operations experienced no material disruption and that it does not expect subsequent impact. It also expects a significant portion of incident-related costs to be covered by insurance. Itron noted that the unauthorized activity did not extend to customers, though the investigation remains ongoing. No ransomware group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
