Shanghai-based photonics chip maker Lightelligence surged by roughly 400 percent in its Hong Kong trading debut, reflecting strong investor appetite for AI-linked semiconductor alternatives.

The company's shares jumped between 353.1 percent and 380.4 percent on major brokerage platforms during grey-market trading on Monday. The retail tranche of its initial public offering was oversubscribed 5,784.7 times. Founded in 2017 by Massachusetts Institute of Technology-trained scientist Shen Yichen, Lightelligence said it was the first company to achieve large-scale deployment of hybrid optical-electronic computing globally.
