DLSS 5 test finds higher power draw and connector heat on RTX 5090
Image: Primary Enabling Nvidia's DLSS 5 raised power draw through a GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition's 16-pin connector from 582.7W to 646.7W in tests by Korean outlet QuasarZone, Tom's Hardware reports. The connector reached 91.7 degrees Celsius on one side, up from 80.9 degrees Celsius with the feature disabled.
QuasarZone ran Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K for 20 minutes and also tested other graphics cards. In a separate simulation with one power pin disconnected, the highest current on a remaining pin rose to 10.1A with DLSS 5 enabled, above the cited 9.2A per-pin specification. Those measurements describe the tested configurations, rather than a failure rate for cards in general.
