E Ink says its new Kaleido 4 color display platform delivers 50% more contrast, reflects 15% more white light and supports video at up to 18 frames per second compared with Kaleido 3, New Atlas reported.

The technology places a color filter over a black-and-white electronic paper panel. A new transistor backplane supports higher driving voltages and faster refreshes. Hanvon Technology's M10C II note-taking tablet, aimed at China, will be the first device to use the screens.

E Ink has not published Kaleido 4's color resolution or palette size. Amazon and Kobo have not announced devices using the platform.
